Bromeley Family Theater, Blaisdell Hall, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford
Runners-up in 2008's "America's Got Talent" competition, Nuttin' But Stringsz is unique in a few ways. Combining classical violin with pop, R&B and hip-hop, brothers Tourie and Damien Escobar have created a powerful and new kind of entertainment merging Vivaldi and 50 Cent, DMX and Bach!
Both Escobars attended the legendary Julliard School of Music where they honed their classical gift. Both were brought up in a rough neighborhood in Queens where they absorbed the music of the streets. They built their act by playing in the New York City subways for tips. "The subway is the equivalent of playing several performances hours each week and we were able to refine our techniques before a live audience," Damien said.
The subway took them to a manager and a record deal.
In 2005, the brothers won a talent show in the legendary Apollo Theater. After that, they were booked on numerous TV shows, including "The Tonight Show," "The Today Show," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." Then they wowed the country on "America's Got Talent."
Their CD, "Struggle from the Subway to the Charts," was released in 2006.
